Repairing a Scratched and Dented Guitar

There are a lot of people that go out, buy a guitar and try to take care of it. I think everyone tries to put an effort into protecting it from any sort of a damage, but it doesn't seem to matter what you do because you're typically going to end up with a scratch or dent on it. Even though this type of damage is completely cosmetic, as it won't change the way it plays, it does bring down the value of the guitar and also makes it look less valuable than it actually is. There are some very easy methods you can follow to help repair any dents or scratches on your guitar.

A dent is a big one for a lot of people because they naturally assume that they're going to have to add wood filler or something like that to fix the dent. You have to remember that a dent isn't a chip. Essentially the same mass of wood is still in that area, it's just compacted down in a smaller area (dent). You can actually expand the wood back out by taking advantage of water damage. When water gets in wood, it expands and swells. Just add a drop of water on the dent and let it sit. The wood should expand back out to the original shape.

As for scratches you can easily take care of this with clear nail polish. A scratch isn't damage to the wood, but to the finish. Nail polish will fill in the scratched area and since it is clear it will reflect the same look of the finish. It basically takes care of the scratch without having to do much at all.
